On Rene Magritte

One of my favorite artists. I’d forgotten how profoundly trauma inspired his paintings. At the age of 14, he saw his mother’s body retreived from the nearby river, a suicide, her nightgown pulled over her head, obscuring her face.

Georgette and Rene MagritteAdditionally, every nude female form in his work was based specifically on his own wife, never anyone else. This is obvious when you see pictures of Georgette Magritte in comparison. I only wish I had a full body shot of her, better demonstrating this.

It seems limiting, to only portray a single female form, but speaks volumes of his love for her, now immortal.

On a sidenote, if you see the movie Dellamorte Dellamore / Cemetary Man, there is a steamy scene based on “The Lovers” painting shown at top. I highly recommend it on many levels: Gnaghi (I love him!), absurdism, sensuality, surrealism, gore and humor.

The crop circles are lovely this time of year

Please note, I believe these are man-made. However, I marvel over the complexity of the design and how flawlessly they pull it off on such a Godzilla-sized scale, and in a single night! You never see or hear of half-finished alien crop art, unless the whole town is in on it too. *eyes town suspiciously*

Here’s the source of the images, along with some more and a hellaciously large resolution version of each. I’ve crop circles on my desktop. This pleases me.

One resembles a Journey album cover. Also note, I do not enjoy Journey’s caterwauling either. Album art just sticks with me.

Salvador Dali Museum

I cannot wait until the new Dali museum is complete in 2010, to:

A) See more of his work in person (It IS different seeing art in person, it’s far more vivid with more detail than a print can capture!)

The new Dali museum will be more than a bunker, Mr. Hine said. And like its eponym, it will be both practical and eccentric. Preliminary designs call for a tree breaking through one exterior wall, a water fountain shooting from another and a skylight protruding from the roof like a glowing loaf of bread.

Mr. Hine said the fountain will do something surprising.

“Maybe there will be pumps that are able to spurt out water that will spell out Dali in the air,” he said. “Or it may dribble in an obscene way. We don’t know. It will definitely get people wet because it will do something unpredictable.”

… and B) to see what that fountain’s up to!

Motherfuck.

Some days I think my head might fucking explode. Seriously, it just might.

I look forward to spontaneously combusting some day, if I’m not there already.

Someone better document this shit when it happens. I love reading about cases of spontaneous human combustion.

Apophenia

Significance in Numbers?Behold, the Drafts of Intrigue (23) & the the Spam from the Bowels of Hell (666) based on their associated numbers, shown in the graphic, if you buy into that sort of thing.

Apophenia: the experience of seeing patterns or connections in random or meaningless data… defined it as the “unmotivated seeing of connections” accompanied by a “specific experience of an abnormal meaningfulness”.

Besides, on the so-called Number of the Beast,” I’ve recently read that it may have been misinterpreted, or obliterated via numerous translations, and that the true number is 616. Makes those who have been living their lives in fear of that number all the more humorous.

As an odd aside, I have noticed that more often than not, if I’m gonna get three-of-a-kind or better in Poker, it’s frequently a nice cluster of sixes. I don’t have strong feelings on this either way, just an interesting coincidence I’ve noticed. The only significance and meaning to be found in these occurrences are those held by an individual and how they perceive it, what they read into it.

I find great amusement in popular superstition - the perception of devilry and evil of all kinds… The shit they preach vs. what’s demonstrated in their their true nature when they think it’s of no consequence, that no one will tie it back to them as an individual (i.e., in traffic or online).

This offers some insight into my artwork. I tend to believe that humans are baser in nature than “The Devil” & “the sins” they fear. As a result, I tend to sympathize with the supernatural baddies a little more when watching horror movies, I root for the monsters. >;D
